Deborah Laurel, M.S., CCC-SLP is a licensed and ASHA-certified bilingual speech-language pathologist with 26 years of experience in a variety of settings which include K–12 public schools, private practice, home health, and academia. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders with a minor in Spanish at Baylor University in 1997 and a Master of Science degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders (bilingual emphasis program) at Texas Christian University in 1999. Throughout her current career in the public schools, Deborah evaluated and treated speech, language, fluency, and pragmatic communication disorders for bilingual (Spanish/English) students. She continues to conduct bilingual speech-language evaluations and Autism team evaluations for bilingual students throughout the school district. In addition, Deborah has advanced training in diagnosing and treating Childhood Apraxia of Speech and serves on her district’s motor speech disorders consultation team. She has similar clinical experiences in the private practice and home health settings. Deborah previously worked as an adjunct clinical instructor and supervisor in the area of stuttering for graduate students pursuing their Master of Science degrees at Texas Christian University. Passionate about culturally and linguistically appropriate assessment and treatment practices for bilingual children, Deborah has provided professional development training in various school districts and at previous Texas Speech-Language-Hearing Association conventions. She is also a member of the TSHA Continuation of Guidelines Committee and has served as an author on the revision of the current Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Articulation Guidelines Companion.
